Alphonso Davies targeting April return for Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann believes signs are "looking good" for the return of Canadian star Alphonso Davies, who has been sidelined since January with symptoms of myocarditis following a COVID-19 infection.

Davies, 21, missed Canada's January World Cup Qualifying window due to recovery, and has not taken part in Bayern Munich training since. But, Nagelsmann is optimistic that Davies should be back for the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals in April.

"I'm no doctor, especially no cardiologist, but I've been told that certainly he's getting better," Nagelsmann said through an interpreter after Tuesday's match, as quoted by the Canadian Press.

"We're doing weekly control checks with him. We're just hoping he will be back. Of course, he was gone for quite a while and we have to keep an eye on him.

"I have good expectations that he'll be back for the quarterfinals."

While Davies hasn't been in training since being diagnosed with the mild heart condition, he has still made his presence felt in Canadian soccer circles.

His Twitch streams, coinciding with Canada's heroics in the January WCQ window, have become one of the year's most viral sporting moments, racking up millions of views across socials.

And, though he's been busy making YouTube videos alongside girlfriend Jordyn Huitema of Paris Saint-Germain and the Canadian Women's National Team, and streaming FIFA 22 to his viewers, a return to the training pitch will certainly be welcome news to Canadian soccer fans - and, we're sure, for the player, too.
