ANALYSIS + HIGHLIGHTS: CanWNT dominant vs. El Salvador in Concacaf W Gold Cup opener
The Canadian women's national team began their 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup campaign in fine form and style, roundly defeating El Salvador 6-0 and comfortably cruising to an opening victory in their tournament debut.
Goals from Cloe Lacasse, Adriana Leon (x2), Jordyn Huitema, Kadeisha Buchanan and Olivia Smith compounded El Salvador's miseries on the night, as the Canadians looked completely unbothered in defense and free-flowing in their attack. In particular, Lacasse, who slotted in at right wing-back, was lively on the front-foot, helping assist and scoring a goal of her own.
It wasn't entirely positive for Canada, though, as Nichelle Prince went down just before half-time with an apparent injury and immediately motioned to be substituted out of the match. The KC Current forward recently returned from injury, raising concerns about her status for the rest of the tournament. Expect more details in the coming hours and days.
But with this win, Bev Priestman's team take three points to top Group C in the opening round, tied with their next opponents. Canada next takes on Paraguay on Sunday, Feb. 25, beginning with our pre-game show at 4:30PM ET / 1:30PM PT, right here on OneSoccer.
