ANALYSIS + HIGHLIGHTS: CanWNT dominate Concacaf W Gold Cup group stage... who's next?
The Canadian women's national team cruised to yet another victory in the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup group stage, dispatching Costa Rica 3-0 to book their place in the tournament quarter-finals as the top-rated seed.
An opening header goal from Jordyn Huitema and a brace from Shelina Zadorsky off of a pair of corner kick routines proved the difference between the two sides on the day, but with qualification all but assured following opening 6-0 and 4-0 wins over El Salvador and Paraguay respectively, the Canadians had their sights set firmly on finishing atop the knockout seeding table – a task they completed successfully, with the U.S. women's national team losing 2-0 to Mexico the night before.
As such, the Canadians now move into the final eight of the tournament with a perfect record (3 wins, 13 goals for, 0 against), and will take on the eighth seed – one of Puerto Rico or, possibly once again, Costa Rica – on Saturday, March 2 from Los Angeles, California.
