ANALYSIS + HIGHLIGHTS: Whitecaps earn HUGE 2-0 win over Inter Miami in Concacaf Champions Cup SF, Leg 1
The Vancouver Whitecaps picked up a massive 2-0 win over Inter Miami in Leg 1 of this Concacaf Champions Cup semi-finals series, on a historic night in Vancouver which saw Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba all feature for the visitors from the start.
A 24th-minute goal by Brian White gave the near-54,000 fans at BC Place a huge moment to celebrate, as White notched his 10th goal in all competitions for the season by picking out a perfect cross and heading home.
Despite holding on to the lion's share of possession, Messi and friends couldn't muster an equalizer – which would also be a crucial away goal – to end the night fruitless despite their collective efforts. The Whitecaps, having learned lessons about holding onto a result after conceding late goals against Pumas UNAM and CF Monterrey in the build-up to this semi-final, held firm.
Then, in the 85th minute, Sebastian Berhalter sealed the result, rounding out a transitionary run with a smashed shot into the roof of the ceiling to send the Southsiders into jubilent frenzy.
And so, the focus now shifts to Leg 2, where Jesper Sørensen's side will look to extend their Concacaf journey into the final against one of Cruz Azul or Tigres UANL by holding onto this 2-0 result – and, perhaps, building on it, down in Miami on April 30, 2025.
