HIGHLIGHTS: Forge FC vs. Chivas Guadalajara (Leg 1, Feb. 7, 2024)
Forge FC suffered a 3-1 defeat to Chivas Guadalajara of Mexico to kick off their 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup campaign, with U.S. men's national team star-on-the-rise Cade Cowell scoring twice and providing a further assist to secure an away result at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton.
Playing their first game of 2024 after lifting the Canadian Premier League's North Star Cup last October, Forge looked to kick off a new season with a major underdog upset against the Mexican giants, and looked to shake off an initial concession with a strong response by way of a Terran Campbell equalizer off a perfect cross by Tristan Borges.
But a 2-1 concession at the stroke of half-time and a third conceded in the second half saw Chivas comfortably cruise to a first leg victory, much to the delight of the large throng of travelling supporters from Mexico, who took over large parts of Tim Hortons Field in both song and in sprawling banners across the field length.
Forge now regroups before heading down to Akron Stadium for Leg 2 on Feb. 13, 2024. You can catch that match right here on OneSoccer.
