WATCH: Making sense of Lorenzo Insigne's blockbuster move to Toronto FC
Does Toronto FC's capture of Napoli and Italy superstar Lorenzo Insigne come about if the Reds had a solid 2021 season?
Or did a failure to make the MLS playoffs expedite the process?
Gareth Wheeler, Andi Petrillo, and Oliver Platt discuss the circumstances surrounding the biggest blockbuster signing in club history:
"I like how (TFC president) Bill Manning put it," Wheeler argues. "The process might have been expediated by how poorly the team played and, really, the apethetic market that was created because of it... but this is part of the build up to the 2026 (World Cup). In order to sell Major League Soccer, you need star players! Manning clearly rates the Italian community in this city because if you can spend $15 million a season on any player, would Insigne be the first one (on your list)?
"Obviously he would be the first one! He might have been the best player who's available this summer, period."
